I WILL EDIT AND/OR AID YOU IN SELF-PUBLISHING YOUR WORK As a former literary magazine editor, newsletter editor for a professional writers' organization, and an avid reader and writer myself, I have many years of experience in editing the short and long works of the writers I've come into contact with. I edit for content and general format as well as mechanical errors (line editing), and for flow and readability. I have many satisfied customers (see some of their recommendations below). In 2014, I began offering my services as a producer for publication. I format works for Amazon--Kindle and paperback--and I have also become fairly proficient at cover design. Click on the covers at left to find the books I edited and published. Note: In the case of Alaric Hutchinson, the covers have changed and I did not create the new covers. The covers at left are the ones I originally designed for him. He cited his own company as the publisher, although I actually did the production for publication. In the case of Sandra Leesmith, she had the cover already, but I added some elements and re-sized the spine. She also used her own company as the publisher, although, again, I was the one who produced the book for updated publication. I am particularly proud of the cover I designed for Vicki Young. I took two photos she had--one of her actual dog, and one of the sky with clouds and the sun streaming upward through them--and made a composite of both, as well as giving "Brando" his wings and halo. I charge a low hourly fee so that I can take the time necessary to help my authors produce their best possible works before submission or publication, and it is more a labor of love than anything else. Because my fee is low, I must be paid up front, but I also work in small increments, as authors have the money to pay me. Several of my authors are doing this. They make an initial payment via PayPal and send me an electronic copy of their work. I then edit it (or as much of it as is paid for at the time) and return it to them for approval. They send it back to me with any changes I've requested or that they themselves wish to make, and then I edit the further changes until we are both satisfied. Please use the form on the Contact page to let me know that you are interested in my editing services. I will reply ASAP, and we can get started! Client Testimonials

I’m blessed to have found my editor, Shari Broyer. What some might call a “chance” meeting with her resulted in this lifelong dream of mine finally being realized. She and I both know there was no “chance” involved that beautiful Sunday afternoon when I stopped by the table where she and a friend were hosting a book signing to launch his newly published memoir. When I found out that Shari not only edits professionally but also helps others self-publish their work, including the aforementioned memoir, I became excited to do the same with Herstory, and the rest is Herstory “history”. Only God could have orchestrated so many details in both our lives to bring us together. Betty Anne Kaarvand Ferguson Author, Herstory _____________________________________________________________________________ 7-26-19 I highly recommend Shari Broyer, for she is more than a producer for publication, so much more than an editor… She is the friend who would walk a hundred miles in a white-out snowstorm to give you the shirt off her back. She is the tomorrow we all waited for yesterday. As a speech writer, I’m really great, but as an author, I can’t tell a pronoun from a noun; however, Shari can. I can’t even spell “preposition”, but Shari can, and further, she knows what one is. If you have a manuscript you want to present in the best light possible for consideration by an agent or publisher, or if you want to completely self-publish it, Shari is the editor you need. The thing I like best about her is that she tells it like it is. Pete Campbell Author, WORDS Co-Author, The Studebaker Wagon _____________________________________________________________________________ 11-30-2018 My thanks to Shari Broyer for editing my books. Her constant reminders and vision kept me on task when writing my first book. She was able to convince me to come up with additional chapters to round out the characters and make The Stain of Satan so much better. Shari enhanced my efforts and improved the novel greatly over what it had been before she took over editing. (I had previously retained another editor.) The best way to explain what Shari does is to think of a house. The walls are painted, new carpet has been laid, and the appliances are connected—the basics. That’s how I write. Shari is able to supply the details that make the house a home. She ensures that there are flowers, family pictures, knickknacks, and other subtle nuances that take it from bare bones to the best home ever. I can’t emphasize enough her importance to my writing, and I’m retaining her editing/publication services for the second novel in the Jack Caldwell series, The Redemption. T.J. Doyle Author, The Stain of Satan _____________________________________________________________________________ 11-27-16 I am extremely grateful to Shari for editing my first book. After several years of living in the United States of America and having received my education in Britain, there were times that my brain felt like jelly when it came to the few grammatical differences between the two varieties of English. I needed assistance with American English. Shari was able to make sense of my manuscript, and I appreciated her asking questions when at times a paragraph did not make sense, or I needed to go into further detail to explain a message I was trying to get across to readers. Shari was extremely patient and took the time to explain points for me to consider in regards to my work. Shari was prompt in returning each chapter for me to go over. Without a doubt, I highly recommend her and will happily return to her in the future. Thank You, Shari! I am a novice writer of picture books. I recently met Shari Broyer at a writers’ group in Mesa, Arizona. I contacted Shari after the meeting to inquire about her services, having decided to get my picture book stories edited. Shari provided detailed and insightful feedback on the two stories I submitted to her. I could tell that she researched the topics I wrote about because she added useful information. She is prompt and professional. This was the first time I have used an editor, and I will definitely seek her services again. I have known Shari for several years. Because I was aware of the professional way in which she works along with her keen eye for detail, I asked her to be the editor for my manual, Insight: Critical Thinking for Kids. Her efforts have been outstanding. Insight: Critical Thinking for Kids, LLC, will continue to grow and Shari will be the editor of each new manual. Patricia Pfetsch Author, Insight: Critical Thinking for Kids _________________________________________________________________________________ "You are brilliant! I... can see the obvious genius that went into editing the pictures as well as the content. I appreciate you. Looks like we have the right editor on the job! Thank You So Much for all your hard work and expertise!" Heather Ricciardi, Executive Director Sustenance Research Institute 1216 W. Straford Dr. Chandler, AZ 85224 (480) 370-7405 [email protected] Co-Author Metamorphosis: Effective Thinking, Grades 1-4 Associate Producer of Insight: Critical Thinking for Children ________________________________________________________________________________ 4-11-15 Shari has been an inspiration and a friend for nearly two years. She has edited several short stories for me thus far as I prepare my first book for publication. This week (April 9, 2015), thanks to her sharp pencil and keen eye, one of my stories, “The Divorce”, won 1st prize in the prestigious Mesa Community College (MCC) Creative Writing Contest. Thank you, Shari, for your help and your friendship. Howard Russell, Chandler, AZ ________________________________________________________________________________ 1-11-2015 My first book is now out, and thanks to Shari Broyer, my long-cherished dream of being a published author has come true. She edited my story, Brando Meets Prince Zachariah, and made sure the book was published in time for Christmas, which was our goal. Shari teaches you as you go through the proofreading of your work, and I have learned so much from her. We have become friends through this process, and I hope to share a lifetime of friendship with her while also working on future projects for the Brando’s Heavenly Adventures series. Shari did it all, created a website for me, which is still under construction, and designed the cover from a picture I had of my dog, Brandy, as well as a picture I took of God’s beauty with light beaming upward through the clouds. Shari used both pictures, cut Brandy out of one and put him on the clouds in the other and added his wings and halo. She published the story on Amazon in both Kindle and paperback formats. I wrote the story, and she did all the rest. I had no idea what to do, so she took care of everything, including adding Hector Uribe’s illustrations to the interior she created. I highly recommend Shari for the editing and publishing of your book; you will be pleasantly surprised how easy it will go. I am a very satisfied author and rate her work with 5 stars. Vicki Young Author, Brando Meets Prince Zachariah--Book One of the Brando's Heavenly Adventures series _________________________________________________________________________________ 10-29-14 It is a real pleasure to work with Shari Broyer and her editing services. She has an excellent eye for the smallest detail, and her grammar skills are impeccable. If you need a thorough edit, Ms. Broyer's service is reliable and excellent. Sandra Leesmith Author, A Flower for Angela sandraleesmith.com seekerville.blogspot.com ________________________________________________________________________________ 7-7-14 Working with Shari has been an incredible experience. In the spring of this year, I completed the manuscript of my book, Living Peace. I wanted to go the self-publishing route through Amazon’s CreateSpace and needed a professional editor to review my book. I met Shari through the recommendation of a friend and we began our journey together. For starters, Shari is a wordsmith and was phenomenal at reviewing and editing my book. That was the easy part! The challenge for me came when I realized just how much more involved the self-publishing route was than I expected. Thank God for Shari, because she had been through it before and helped me with the entire process. Shari formatted my book, helped me create front and back covers, did the entire uploading process, and also created the e-book (Kindle) version for me, as well as doing the same for the booklet I spun off Living Peace as an introduction to it, 5 Practices That Will Change Your Life. Long story short, she saved me money, time and a lot of headaches by helping me publish my book and went far beyond just editing it. Her rates are very affordable, and this worked out perfectly since—as someone just starting out—I didn’t have a large budget to work with. I plan to engage her services for the entire Luminous Living Series. I would recommend Shari’s services to anyone. She’s an amazing editor as well as someone who can assist new authors with the whole self-publishing process. Having her kind of help when you’re unfamiliar with self-publishing is a must! Alaric Hutchinson Author, Living Peace 5 Practices That Will Change Your Life ________________________________________________________________________________ 3-22-14 When I wanted to know how an early draft was going, I gave the novella to Shari. Her suggestions on word choice and repetitions were extremely valuable. More importantly, a chapter in the novella led the reader down the wrong path. Her pointing that out allowed the emphasis to remain where it should be, on all the seductions, love, power, and security. Shari was smart and honest enough to see that and does what a good editor should do, make you rewrite. Thank you very much for the edit. Albert M. Ayala Author, Over the Rainbow ________________________________________________________________________________ I reached out to Shari for help with a flash fiction piece because of her background as a literary magazine editor and because she does a wonderful job editing the Desert Rose monthly newsletter. Shari’s feedback was detailed and insightful, and her editorial critique was great. I’ll also mention that this was a rush job, yet Shari was able to finish it two days ahead of schedule. Thank you, Shari, for your prompt, courteous service! Maria Piork ________________________________________________________________________________ 3-9-14 I highly recommend Shari Broyer as an editor. Her editing skills extended way beyond what I thought editors would do. For starters, she gave me a few quick lessons by email and one by phone on how to convert Apple Pages to a Microsoft Word document so we could send documents back and forth. (She has a PC and I own a Mac.) It was so easy to understand when she explained it. She was a great teacher and had much patience! Her actual editing skills are excellent and impressive, but she does more than just edit. She also formats the material and gets it ready for publishing. Shari edited a rather long, thirteen-chapter, non-fiction manuscript for me that dealt with political and historical figures and had over 800 footnotes. Editing this work seemed daunting to me, but she was up to the task and did a tremendous job. I was very pleased. She has a quick mind and questioned why I said this or that or the order of the paragraphs and told me when things did not make sense. She made many helpful suggestions to enhance the writing and make it more interesting for the reader. She even gave her truthful opinion on my last chapter, and, after I thought about it, I had to agree she was right. It needed more work on my part. I highly recommend her for any type of editing job. Suzanne Angioli Author Planet Neptune and the Modern US Presidents ________________________________________________________________________________ 6-18-13 Shari Broyer's editing is insightful and thorough. She absorbs what has been written, and her comments are incisive and thought-provoking. She challenges me to be a better writer and, with her assistance, I believe that my book, Icarus Falling, will be successful. However, it is not necessarily the end product that is the goal, but rather the process--which she facilitates--of making the journey fulfilling and satisfying. Her optimism is contagious and helps me believe in myself and my novel. When she reads this, I know she will be checking each word, each phrase, each sentence, and all punctuation to make sure there are no errors. Her grammar is impeccable, but more importantly, her friendship is a blessing. Thank you, Shari. Linda Vogel Writing as Averleigh ________________________________________________________________________________ 4-21-12 I completed my recent book, Visions and Visitors, with the expertise of Shari’s editing which was of the highest standard. Shari is a precise editor. However, she does more than edit for grammatical errors. She is a wordsmith and suggested better words where I was lacking. If I needed to elaborate or explain a metaphysical term, she advised me how to go about it. Shari is a pleasure to work with and most generous with her time. Because of her help, my memoir is now under contract for publication. I highly recommend her services. Susan Stockton Author, Visions and Visitors: Memoir of a Psychic ________________________________________________________________________________ Shari Broyer was one of my students in the course, Writing to get Published, that I teach twice a year in the Groveland, CA, library. I found her to be a very talented writer--her comments on the work of others in the class insightful and incisive. Further: when I enlisted her help in getting the textbook I’d written in digital shape for the class, she turned out to be not only a fine editor but technically proficient, too. Very easy to work with. Bill Manville Author of Cool, Hip and Sober PS: I think the simplest way to help you decide how much my recommendation may be worth, see, immediately below, the announcement about me and the class that ran in our local newspaper: Writing to Get Published "What do New York agents, magazine editors and book publishers look for in new writers? Former Village Voice columnist; an editor for Helen Gurley Brown at Cosmo; author of six books published by major New York houses--one a Book-of-the-Month--and now a columnist for the New York Daily News, Bill Manville will once again conduct a free Writing to Get Published course at the Groveland Public Library for six Saturdays, starting April 11, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Here is what Michael Korda, Editor in Chief, Simon & Schuster, says about Bill: “...the work I know best is your novel Goodbye, which I edited. What first attracted me was the dazzling prose; I was equally impressed by plot and characterization. A considerable literary accomplishment but also a Book of the Month choice, bringing an impressive price at paperback auction. What may also interest your students, I’ve heard you in discussion with writers like Joe Heller, Patricia Bosworth, Lois Gould and Gay Talese, and remember thinking more than once, Bill ought to be teaching it, too." ________________________________________________________________________________ I am an English teacher at Sonora High School, where I met Shari Broyer. Shari was employed as a Computer Technician and overseer of the computer labs at Sonora High. We became friends as well as associates, and we often discussed our mutual love of writing. Shari invited me to join a local writer’s group that meets on a monthly basis. Shari shared a leadership role in the group and helped facilitate the monthly meetings. I respected Shari’s ability with the English language, and when I was swamped at school, I hired her to grade essays. She is an excellent editor, who always goes the extra mile in her thorough attention to detail, accuracy, and style. Her work on my students' papers convinced me to ask Shari to edit a juvenile fiction I’d written. I was very pleased with her comments and editorial work which contributed greatly to an improved manuscript. I will definitely request her services again, for future revision help. I am sorry that she has left the Sonora area, as her editing and record keeping services were invaluable. I can certainly vouch for her editing skills and her integrity. Kristin A. Fulton ________________________________________________________________________________ I am writing this on behalf of Shari Broyer, an esteemed writing and editing colleague. In my capacities as a former Coordinator of Literary Arts Programs for three San Francisco Bay Area Arts organizations, the co-founder of South Bay Lit, Executive Editor of Dragonfly Press and The Montserrat Review, community outreach activist, Ragdale Foundation artist-in-residence, and as a former college instructor and university writing lab director, I have been in a position to observe the behavior of a wide cross-section of professional artists, writers, and facilitators. Shari is one of those rare individuals who combines intelligence with warmth, focus with flexibility, and creativity with centeredness. When we were both members of the Sonora Writers Group in 2008/2009, I found her feedback to be invaluable, as did other members. Shari could always be counted on to deliver commentary with clarity and tact. Moreover, before she relocated to Arizona, she helped edit and proof the manuscripts of members who were contributing to a locally produced anthology. She looked at one of my poems and suggested slight changes that made it even better! Calder Lowe, Poet, Editor ________________________________________________________________________________ Shari Broyer has truly been a lifesaver for me. There are so many things I love about her that I don't know where to start. Not only is she organized, fast and personable, but she is the best editor ever. She goes beyond the call of duty in assuring that my work is edited and formatted properly. Her suggestions are helpful and her honesty is refreshing. Thanks, Shari, for making my work shine and always working with integrity. Cassandra Jones ________________________________________________________________________________ Thank you, Ms. Shari Broyer, for all your help in editing my new book, Jeremya Jones: a King’s Kid. Because of your expert experience, the book has started with a bang! You are highly recommended and will be my editor for all the Jeremya Jones series. Again, thank you! Rev. Roland Johnson Author of Jeremya Jones: a King's Kid _______________________________________________________________________________ I have known Shari Broyer in a variety of capacities for many years. She has been my writing adviser for the past several years. In addition, she is my editor. She is responsible for editing my articles, short stories, and novels. Shari is organized, efficient, extremely competent, and has an excellent rapport with people of all ages. Her communication skills, both written and verbal, are excellent. She has hosted writers groups and presents her own work in poetry and creative writing in front of poetry and writing groups. In summary, I highly recommend Shari for any position or endeavor that she may seek to pursue. She will be a valuable asset. Robert G. I estimate her professionalism as very high. Shari has an astute and keen eye for diction as well as a full understanding of punctuation and all grammatical rules. Within the short time we have worked together, just over the past month, I have learned a tremendous amount as she not only corrects, but generously takes the time to write to me the definitions and describes my parameters within the rules of the English language. I cannot praise her work in editing enough, as she has been a tremendous asset to my skills. Certainly, I have full confidence in her understanding of poetic sensibility, a trait sometimes missing in a structural editor. I personally look forward to a lifetime of association with Ms. Broyer. Once I send a final, or sometimes unpolished, draft to her, I feel as if I have given it to the master, E. B. White, the grandfather of writing rules as documented in his essential book, The Elements of Style. George Handy ________________________________________________________________________________ Shari provided detailed feedback on content and structure for my book. She offered suggestions on the formatting and took the time to carefully review the vocabulary that I used and seek out alternative words for consideration. Her time with my piece was very helpful.
